About ProbatePack
ProbatePack is a preparation service for Irish personal probate applicants. It is not a law firm. It is a set of carefully designed tools and documents that turn the messy paperwork of probate into an ordered checklist you can work through yourself.
Who built this
ProbatePack was built by Justin O'Brien, a working property and energy professional based in Dublin. Justin has run Homerating.ie as a SEAI-registered Building Energy Rating assessor since 2009, personally carrying out thousands of BER assessments across Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare, Meath, and Louth. Alongside that he maintains a portfolio of practical Irish property information sites, including HomeEnergyGuide.ie and IrishPropertyGuide.ie.
ProbatePack is part of that broader project: produce plain-English, Ireland-specific guidance for the things people find confusing and expensive when they deal with property, energy, or estates.
Why this site exists
Probate in Ireland costs most families between €2,000 and €5,000 in solicitor fees for estates that are straightforward. Straightforward here means a typical parent-to-child inheritance: a house, a couple of bank accounts, maybe a pension, all in Ireland, with no disputes. Not every estate is like this, but many are.
For these estates, a personal application is not only legal; it is the financially sensible choice. The Probate Office has accepted personal applicants for decades. The forms are not genuinely difficult. Revenue's SA2 is well-documented. What stops people applying personally is not the complexity; it is not knowing what to do in what order and not wanting to get it wrong.
ProbatePack closes that gap. The Preparation Pack pre-fills the SA2 form to match Revenue's categories exactly. The Preparation Pack generates 25 personalised letters for Irish banks, utilities, and state bodies. The Readiness Check is the up-front check that tells you whether any of this applies to you before you spend a cent.
What ProbatePack is not
ProbatePack is not a law firm. It does not give legal advice. It does not act for you before the Probate Office. It does not file anything with Revenue on your behalf. It cannot represent you in a contested estate.
If your situation has any of the complexity triggers on the solicitor check page, the right answer is a solicitor, not a ProbatePack product. Every product on this site has a clear scope and refund policy. The Readiness Check will tell you directly if a solicitor is the right route, and will not upsell you a higher-tier product that does not fit.
Honest economics
The Readiness Check is €79. The Preparation Pack is €229. The Preparation Pack (the flagship) is €229. The Complete Bundle with CAT and IT38 preparation is €449. All one-off purchases with no subscriptions, no follow-ups, no hidden charges.
For context: a typical solicitor's probate fee is €2,000 to €5,000. ProbatePack's top-tier product is roughly 5% to 10% of that, in exchange for the executor doing the legwork themselves. That is the whole pitch.
30-day refund for quality issues. No refund for "I changed my mind after receiving the PDF," because most of the delivery cost has already been incurred at that point.
