Who this is for

If you have decided to apply for probate yourself (without a solicitor), this is the pack that gets you through it. You save the €2,000 to €5,000 a solicitor would charge, in exchange for a few hours of your own time on paperwork the Probate Office is used to seeing from personal applicants.

This pack covers the whole process: before your Probate Office appointment, on the day of the appointment, and after the Grant of Probate arrives. Many guides stop at the Grant; we keep going until the estate is properly closed.

Most popular pack. Right for most personal applicants with a family home, some bank accounts and pensions, and no complicated tax reliefs to claim.

What you get

Before you visit the Probate Office

  1. Your 14-Day Action Plan (1 page PDF). a numbered list of what to do this week. Print it and stick it on the fridge.
  2. Your Readiness Report (8–12 page PDF). the diagnostic report that comes with the Readiness Check, included here as your starting point.
  3. SA2 Preparation Form (PDF + XLSX). the Revenue Statement of Affairs, pre-filled with your answers, laid out section by section. Printable as a form to complete by hand, or as an Excel sheet for anyone who prefers working on a computer.
  4. Beneficiary List (PDF + XLSX). everyone inheriting from the estate, their relationship to the person who died, what they are getting, and their Group A/B/C inheritance tax position.
  5. Asset Tracker (PDF + XLSX). a record sheet for every bank account, credit union, pension, and property. Columns for the date you wrote to the institution, the date they replied, and the balance they confirmed at the date of death.
  6. 25 Notification Letters (PDF pack, one per institution). personalised letters to every bank, credit union, pension provider, state body, and registrar you need to notify. Each letter pre-filled with the deceased's details, the correct current address for the institution, and the right phrasing for your case.
  7. Probate Affidavit (DOCX + PDF). the executor or administrator affidavit, pre-filled with names, dates, and relationships.

On the day you visit the Probate Office

  1. Your Appointment Briefing (4 page PDF). what happens on the day, who you will meet, what they will ask, what to say, what the Oath of Executor involves.
  2. Document Checklist (1 page PDF). everything to bring, in order, with tick boxes.

After you get the Grant of Probate

  1. Post-Grant Administration Guide (20 page PDF). what to do once the Grant arrives. Collecting bank balances, selling or transferring property, paying debts in the correct order, distributing to beneficiaries, requesting Revenue clearance, closing the estate properly.
  2. Estate Accounts Template (PDF + XLSX). your record of all money in and out during the probate. This is what a solicitor would prepare and charge separately for. Beneficiaries have a legal right to see these accounts at the end.
  3. Beneficiary Update Letters (3 DOCX templates). pre-drafted letters to keep beneficiaries informed at each stage: initial notification, mid-probate update, final distribution with accounts.

If there is no will (intestacy)

  1. Intestacy Shares Calculator (PDF). who inherits what under the Succession Act 1965, personalised to the family structure you described in the questionnaire.

Extras

  1. Executor's Legal Duties Checklist (2 page PDF). the statutory duties you take on as executor, in plain English. Your reference through the whole process.
  2. 6-month re-download access. if Revenue changes anything between your purchase and your Probate Office appointment, regenerate the whole pack from your original answers at no charge.
  3. 6 months of milestone email reminders. five short helpful emails at the right moments in your probate process. "Have the banks replied yet?", "Your appointment is coming up, here's the final checklist", "Your Grant should be arriving soon, here's what to do next", and so on.

Written in plain English

Every form has a plain-language cover sheet explaining what it is for, what to do with it, and where it fits in the process. Where legal terms matter (Grant of Probate, Oath of Executor, intestacy), we always explain what they mean first.

For people who prefer writing on paper: every spreadsheet also comes as a printable PDF form you can fill in with a pen.

For people who prefer working on a computer: the same data is in an Excel / Google Sheets / Numbers file with formulas that add up for you.

You do not need to make an account or remember a password. Everything arrives by email as file attachments.

How it works

  1. Click the button below.
  2. Answer the questionnaire. Around 30 questions, takes about 30 minutes. The form saves as you go, so you can pause and come back later.
  3. Pay €229 with card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Revolut via Stripe.
  4. Your pack arrives by email within minutes: numbered files, with clear instructions on which to read first.

Pairs with a Readiness Check

If you bought the Readiness Check (€79) first, you get €50 off the Preparation Pack, making your effective price €179. Look for the upgrade link in your Readiness Check delivery email, valid for 60 days. No code to remember.

What this is not

  • Not a substitute for a solicitor on complex estates. If the estate involves overseas assets, contested wills, business shares, working farmland, or is above roughly €1.5 million, instruct a solicitor instead. The Readiness Check at €79 tells you whether your estate needs that.
  • Not a filed SA2. You still submit the SA2 on Revenue's myAccount. The Preparation Pack gets it ready to submit.
  • Not legal advice. It is professionally prepared written support for a personal probate application.

Refund policy

30-day refund for quality issues. If any letter has a factual error, any form has a wrong field, or any section is unusable, we fix it within 5 working days or refund in full. Since the pack is personalised and delivered immediately, there is no refund for "I changed my mind after receiving the files".

Full refund policy at /refund-policy/.

When you should use a solicitor instead

ProbatePack is preparation support for personal applicants with straightforward estates. Use a solicitor if any of these apply:

  • Disputes or disagreements between family members
  • Assets outside Ireland
  • Estate value above approximately €1 million
  • Business or agricultural property needing relief structuring
  • A contested will, or claims under Section 117 of the Succession Act
  • Minor or incapacitated beneficiaries
